'Chinese Higher Education Expo' to be held at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre

Kolkata: The second edition of the "Chinese Higher Education Expo" in Kolkata will witness participation from 60 Chinese universities from eleven provinces and municipalities of China.
The two-day event will be held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on May 10 and 11.
The Consulate General of China in Kolkata in cooperation with the School of Chinese Language in the city is holding the two-day event. Last time, when it was hosted in Kolkata in November 2016, there were participation from 32 Chinese universities.
"The universities will be here to publicise their achievements, to find Indian partners of cooperation and to recruit Indian students," Chinese Consul General in Kolkata, Ma Zhanwu, said at a press conference on Monday.
He said students would have the option of choosing from as many as 100 courses.
"The details of the scholarships and similar facilities for pursuing higher studies in China will be shared at the two day event. China has targeted Kolkata as the country feels this city is the hub of education in eastern India," Zhanwu maintained.
According to an official in the Chinese Consulate in the city, every year around 18,000 students across the country go for higher studies in China and around 100 of them are from Bengal. "The expo is being held against a favourable backdrop of improving relationship between India and China," he said adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are reaching "an
important consensus on developing further the partnership and cooperation between two nations in their recent
meeting in Wuhan". The participating Chinese universities will include Nanjing University, Xi'an Jiaotong University,
Sichuan University of Science and Technology, Northeast Normal University among others.
