Chandrima Bhattacharya administered oath as MLA

Chandrima Bhattacharya was sworn in as the MLA at a function held in the Assembly House on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay conducted the oath taking ceremony. Bhattacharya won the Kanthi South by-election by defeating her nearest BJP rival by over 42,000 votes.

After taking oath, Bhattacharya thanked the people of Kanthi South "for voting her and assured to work for them and also thanked Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee "for keeping faith on her." Bhattacharya is likely to be inducted in the Cabinet as the state Law minister. It may be recalled that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier said that Bhattacharya would be made a minister in "the month of Baishak."
