CESC to educate electricians working in pandals

Kolkata: Ahead of Durga Puja, the CESC has organised a special safety seminar for electricians as a part of its Safety Education Programme.
The Safety Education Programme is a special programme initiated by the CESC to train its employees more on the safety measures. Electricians in Howrah took time off from their busy pre-Puja commitments and attended the programme on Monday.
A large number of electricians engaged in illuminating puja panadals were given training on the various safety measures. In some cases, the electricians were accompanied by the Puja organisers.
Addressing the gathering, Avijit Ghosh, vice-president, distribution services, CESC said that the number of Puja pandals in CESC area this year will reach 4,000 and it is of utmost importance for electricians engaged by Puja organisers to keep several safety measures in mind right from the pandal construction stage.
Ghosh also announced that another special workshop will be held in Kolkata at
CESC's Princep Street Office on September 8 from 4 pm to 6 pm. Participants discussed
the role of fire-resistant low-smoke cables within Puja pandals to reduce the risk of electrical fire.
The electricians were also asked to avoid old/frayed wires. Experts said that the joints in wirings should be avoided as far as possible. In case this is unavoidable, the joints should be carefully insulated/taped, experts suggested.
The electricians were also urged about the importance of all electrical connections to be earthed. It is also essential to avoid overloading which may lead to unwanted outages, fire or electrical accidents.
Puja organisers this year will declare the actual load, while using the LEDs, replacing high power consuming lights as it can reduce the energy consumption.
Electricians and Puja organisers were requested to consult CESC experts in case of any doubt over security issues.
