Centre for perishable cargo comes up near Bagdogra Airport

Kolkata: Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) has joined hands with state Food Processing Industries and Horticulture Department with the financial assistance from Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Assistance to States for Infrastructure Development for Exports (ASIDE) to come up with a Centre for Perishable Cargo (CPC) on its land adjacent to Bagdogra Airport.

Centre for Perishable Cargo is an important facility for preservation of perishable goods from hinterland and

exit point for export and movement of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers apart

from other products.

The total project area is about 3 acre

and the project cost is Rs 640.10 lakh.

Of the amount, Rs. 315.10 lakh was received from Assistance to States for Infrastructure Development for Exports (ASIDE) for approach road and other works while Rs 299.00 lakh was funded from Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for infrastructure development and balance fund and the land has been provided by SJDA.

AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd (AAICLAS), a100% subsidiary of AAI made a proposal for some modification on November 13, 2018.

The state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs department approved the proposal for modification on January 25.

Draft license agreement had been vetted by the Urban Development and Municipal, Affairs department May 28, 2019.

Salient features of the agreement: CPC facility will be handed over by SJDA to AAI/AAICLAS as is where is basis.

AAI/AAICLAS would invest about Rs 10-15 crore for further development. Operation and Maintenance cost would borne by AAI/AAICLAS.

AAICLAS would share ten per cent (10%) of pre-tax operating profit with SJDA. AAICLAS would get the CPC facility for 30 years on a token amount of Rs 1.

AAICLAS will be permitted to use the vacant developed area within the complex for parking and loading/unloading purpose.
