CBI conducts raid at Rishra Jute Mill in connection with Rs 150 crore scam

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid on Thursday at a jute mill at Rishra in Hooghly in connection with an alleged scam of Rs 150 crore.
According to the sources in CBI, a senior official of the Rishra Hastings Jute Mills had taken a loan of Rs 150 crore from a nationalized bank in 2012. He had taken the loan for expansion of his business.
The bank officials found that the senior official Somnath Bandyopadhyay had taken the loan and as per the agreement he was suppose to repay the money by the end of 2014.
A complaint was lodged in this connection with Rishra Police Station and later the CBI had taken up the case. As a part of their investigation, the CBI officers went to the jute mill on Thursday.
The investigating officers have gone through several documents and they might have also seized some of the computers and its hard discs. The computers were mainly used by Somnath.
The investigating officers are now trying to find out where the money was invested. The raid at the jute mill continued for hours and the CBI officers spoke to some of the employees of the jute mills. The investigating officers tried to gather information about Somnath. The investigating officers went to the office of the jute mill and went through several documents.
