CBI arrests EPFO Enforcement Officer for demanding bribe

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Enforcement Officer of Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) regional office in Kolkata for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000. Samiran Kumar Mondal who has been posted as enforcement officer of EPFO was caught red-handed from his Park Street office after the CBI sleuths laid a trap. Sources in the CBI said that a case was registered against the accused on the basis of the compliant of one Abhinandan Bose who alleged that the accused had demanded Rs 1 lakh as bribe since the complainant was not complying with provisions of Provident Fund Act. It was further alleged that the accused scaled down his demand of bribe to Rs. 20,000 as the complainant expressed his inability to pay such a huge amount. Following Mondal's arrest the CBI conducted searches at the office and residential premises and recovered several documents. The accused was produced at the designated CBI court in the city and was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
