Campaign to eradicate child labour

Kolkata: Jyoti Basu Memorial Foundation, a non-profit and non-political social organisation, flagged off a campaign to eradicate child labour on the eve of World Day Against Child Labour on Tuesday.

Following the wishes of Jyoti Basu, his daughter-in-law Rakhi Basu has been working untiringly for the betterment of children and women. Basu wanted to abolish child labour and had donated Rs 10 lakh for the purpose. To mark the 100 years of advancing social justice and promoting decent work, Jyoti Basu Memorial Foundation decided to start a campaign on creating awareness about child labour and allowing children to spend their childhood learning and playing instead of earning their living.

The sight of children earning their living pained Jyoti Basu and made him work towards making childhood with full of learning and joy for kids.

Making his dream a reality, Rakhi Basu planned an awareness campaign on anti-child labour through informative creative designs. Two tableaus that will travel all over Kolkata to spread the message were flagged off on Tuesday. The campaign will continue for the next ten days with the help of hoardings.
