Calcutta Medical Hospital arranges Puja tour for children

Kolkata: In a unique initiative, Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) authorities have decided to organise 'Puja Parikrama' — where the children undergoing treatment at various departments in the hospital would be taken to various Puja pandals.

According to the hospital sources, apart from the children suffering from Thallassemia many others at Oncology and Pediatric Medicine would be given an opportunity to see the idols at various Puja pandals. The children, who are in the hospital for over 5 months, hardly get any scope to step out of the four walls of the hospital room. During Durga Puja, when the entire state celebrates the home coming of Goddess Durga with her entourage from her abode, people indulge in pandal hopping wearing new dresses. But many children who are on hospital beds find it difficult to remain confined within the hospital during the Puja days. Keeping this in mind, CMCH has come up with the unique idea of arranging a 'Puja Parikrama' where children will be able to go out and enjoy pandal hopping, will have own fun their outside the hospital.

Sources at CMCH said as many as 30 patients will be given the opportunity. Parents of these children will be able to accompany them to the puja pandals. The journey would start from CMCH campus at around 10 am on the day of Sasthi. They would be taken to various Puja pandals including Md Ali Park, College Square, Santoshmitra Square. Along with the senior officials of the hospital, Rogi Kalyan Samity Chairman of CMCH, Dr Nirmal Majhi, is expected to take part in the event.

Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that a children park would also be inaugurated in the morning of Sasthi by Dr Maji. The children's park has been constructed outside the Hematology department of the hospital with all the basis amenities so that children coming to the department with various blood related ailments can spend some quality time with his/her family members.

The main purpose behind the idea is to ensure that children who come to the department with rare blood diseases can enjoy. This will reduce the stress of patients and help them overcome monotonous lives. Children can take a stroll in and around the park, spend some quality time with their parents.
