Businessman held for bribing BSF officer

Kolkata: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Murshidabad based businessmen from a five star hotel in Central Kolkata, on charges of giving bribe to a BSF officer.
Though the exact reason behind giving bribe to the BSF officer is yet to be ascertained, preliminary investigation has revealed that the businessman, Enamul Haque, was involved with a "cow smuggling racket" in the Indo-Bangladesh border areas. It was on January 30 that CBI had received a tip-off, following which they conducted a raid at the Ernakulam Junction Railway Station in Kerala and arrested Jibu D Mathew, Commandant of the 83rd Battalion of BSF, who was travelling in Shalimar Express to reach Kayamkulam. The investigating officers had found Rs 50 lakh in cash, in a blue trolley bag that he was carrying. Investigation later revealed that he had taken the money from smugglers in the Indo-Bangladesh border, "as illegal gratification for the favours he did for them in his capacity as BSF commandant".
During further investigation, the CBI officers have come to know about the businessman, from whom the BSF commandant had received the money. Officers of the central investigating agency from Kerala had received a tip-off that the Murshidabad businessman was going to stay in a five star hotel in Central Kolkata on Sunday. Accordingly, the investigating officers conducted a raid and arrested the accused from the hotel. Enamul was produced before the Bankshall Court on Monday morning and was taken to Kerala in a transit remand of 3 days.
The investigating officers are trying to find out whether any more persons are involved in this case.
