Bus overturns into ditch in West Midnapore, 10 hurt

Kolkata: Ten people suffered injuries after a private bus they were travelling in overturned into a ditch at Talpukur area under Marishda in West Midnapore on Sunday morning.

The incident triggered tension among the local residents in the morning. After being informed the police reached the spot and rescued the injured victims.

The bus was carrying around 35 passengers to Digha. The bus driver lost control over the vehicle while taking a sharp turn at Talpukur area and overturned into a road side ditch. The traffic movement was disrupted along the National Highway 116B following the accident. According to the police, six suffered serious injuries during the accident.

All the injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital where some victims were released after primary treatment.

Those who suffered serious injuries are undergoing treatment.

The passengers were in a traumatised state when they were rescued by the police. Some of the local residents were said to have taken part in the rescue operation.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the bus driver was over-speeding the vehicle and this led to the accident.

Police are also investigating if the vehicle developed any technical glitch during the accident or it happened due to the fault of the driver.

Police recovered the vehicle. A probe has been initiated in this regard.
