Bus overturns, 55 persons including 35 students injured

Kolkata: Fifty five persons including 35 students were injured after the bus they were travelling in overturned near Mathrun area in East Burdwan on Monday morning.
The incident took place when the vehicle was going to Morbadh from Katwa in Burdwan.
The locals told the police that the bus was at top speed when the driver lost control and it overturned.
According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that the incident occurred when the driver applied emergency brakes to reduce the speed.
They also suspect that the driver might have applied sudden brakes that led to the accident.
The locals rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and rescued the injured victims.
All the injured persons including children were taken to a nearby healthcentre.
Some of the injured persons were released from the
healthcentre while many have been undergoing treatment. Some schoolchildren sustained head injuries too.
According to preliminary investigation, police came to know that the bus driver had applied brakes after he suddenly saw a Tata Sumo in front of the bus.
The bus overturned in such a manner that the locals could not bring out the trapped passengers out of the bus through the main gate.
They broke the window glasses and rescued the injured passengers.
Among the injured children Najma Khatun, Fancy Khatun and Manasa Haldar are stated to be in serious condition.
They were going to school to sit for an examination. According to the police 15 persons had received serious injuries in the accident.
A senior administrative official of the district said those students who failed to appear in the examination will be given an opportunity to reappear after they recover from the injuries.
Police are conducting raids to nab the bus driver who is absconding since the incident happened.
