Burdwan University students protest to postpone exams

Kolkata: A section of students resorted to agitation at Burdwan University on Monday demanding postponement of their examination dates.

The undergraduate students of Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) were involved in a scuffle with the non-teaching staff of the university.

The academic activities at the varsity was jeopardised because of student's agitation.

This is the second time this year when the campus of the varsity had been in turmoil due to student's agitation.

In February, students of all undergraduate courses had demanded postponement of their examination. The university had yielded to the pressure of the students and had announced that the examinations would be held in the last week of March.

A few days ago , the university announced the examination dates beginning from the first week of April.

However, the students particularly those studying BBA and BCA further demanded delay of examinations claiming that their syllabus has not been completed.

The students in the morning encroached at the entrance of the Rajbati campus of

the varsity and staged a

protest. When a university staff member wanted to go out for some work the keys of his motorbike was confiscated by the students.

When he protested there was a heated argument which soon snowballed into a scuffle between the students and some non-teaching staff.

The university authorities intervened to bring the situation under control.

While, the students have asserted that they will continue their agitation university authorities have made it clear that the examinations will be held in the first week of April as per schedule.
