Budge Budge thermal power station No. 1 in country

Kolkata: The 750 MW thermal power station owned by the CESC Limited at Budge Budge has been announced number 1 among all thermal power plants in the country by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in terms of Plant Load Factor (PLF).

The announcement comes when Bengal's one of the biggest festivals Durga Puja is just a couple of days away.

According to CEA sources, the PLF of Budge Budge Generating Station (3x250 MW) was around 96.80 percent in August 2019.

One the basis of PLF, the Budge Budge thermal power station has managed to secure first place in the country.

It is a coal-based power station which supplies electricity to CESC licensed area in Kolkata. Commenting on the latest announcement by the CEA, Rabi Chowdhury, Managing Director – Generation, CESC said on Tuesday that the three coal-based units of Budge Budge Generating Station are consistent producers of electricity.

Budge Budge power station has been ranked first among all thermal power plants in

the country for its performance both in July and August this year. The first unit of CESC's Budge Budge (250 MW) was commissioned in 1997, followed by the second unit (250 MW) in 1999 and the third unit (250 MW) in 2009.

The CESC has already put in place adequate arrangement to provide uninterrupted power supply during the Puja days. Around 200 emergency mobile vans will patrol throughout the day and night during puja. In addition to that 100 repairing teams will be deployed at strategic locations to meet any crisis.

A number of stand-by generators will be kept in readiness at strategic locations. Special control room manned by senior officers will be made operational. The CESC has published special helpline numbers ~ 98310 79666/98310 83700 to provide assistance to the consumers. There will also be some special arrangements for immediate restoration of supply in case of any power interruption to Puja pandals and adjoining areas.
