BSF employee's wife ends life after tiff with in-laws

Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her in-laws' house at Taherpur in Nadia.

Police said that the woman, Pratibha Majumader got married to one Jeet Das, a resident of the E block at Taherpur three months ago. It was learnt that Jeet, a BSF employee, was currently posted in Siliguri. The victim had been living with her in-laws at their house.

Police came to know after interrogating the local residents that the victim had engaged into a quarrel with her in-laws on Monday morning.

Within few minutes after the quarrel had settled down, the victim was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside her house. The local
residents informed the matter to the police. After being informed, the police reached the spot and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced brought dead by the doctors.
The in-laws along with the victim's sister-in-law fled from the house immediately after the recovery of the Pratibha's body. Pratibha's parents, also residents of Taherpur area, lodged a complaint against her in-laws at the local police station on the basis of which police have started an investigation.

The family members of Pratibha told the police that the woman had been subjected to both mental and physical torture at her in-laws' house in the past three months since her marriage. The local residents also told the police that they often heard a quarrel between them but on Monday it took an ugly turn forcing Pratibha to end her life. Police are investigating if the victim had committed suicide or there was any foul play behind the mishap. Police are also trying to contact the husband of the victim for the sake of investigation.

After conducting raids in the nearby areas, police have detained the victim's in-laws for interrogation. Police have also started a detailed probe into the death of the victim.
