BSF discovers tunnel connecting Bangladesh to India

The BSF while patrolling the Indo-Bangladesh border came across a tunnel from Bangladesh to the Indian side. Based on a complaint by the BSF, police have started investigating the tunnel located in North Dinajpur district.

Amitkumar Bharat Rathod, Superintendent of Police, Uttar Dinajpur stated that the complaint by the 139 Battalion BSF states that the tunnel is located in the Fatepur Border Outpost area under the Chopra Police Station. The 100 metre long tunnel starts from the Puratan Atwari area of Bangladesh and is connected to Arugach area on the Indian side. On the Indian side it has two openings of 18 inch and 12 inch diameters located inside the Duncan Tea Garden around 200 metre inside India. Around 100 metre inside Bangladesh, the tunnel opens up into a rectangular space of 4 feet length and 2 feet width.

"As per the complaint lodged by the BSF, prima facie the tunnel is being dug from the Bangladesh side. It could be for smuggling of contraband goods. We are investigating the matter" stated the SP.
