BSF arrests man with gold biscuits

Kolkata: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel posted at the Indo-Bangla border near Chapra in Nadia have recovered huge quantity of gold biscuits and US dollars from a person who was trying to cross the border to reach Bangladesh.

The suspect identified as Buddhadeb Biswas was detained by BSF and later was handed over to police. According to sources, on Sunday afternoon, while patrolling along the Indo-Bangla border at Hridaypur in Chapra, BSF personnel saw a man loitering close to the barbed wire fence. When the man was told to surrender, he allegedly tried to flee.

But before he could escape, BSF personnel chased him and managed to detain the man. He was brought to the BSF camp where he disclosed his identity.

When BSF personnel searched his bag they found approximately gold biscuits weighing around one Kg and huge amount of US dollars. The gold found is worth Rs 36 lakh approximately and the US dollars are worth Rs 25.5 lakh approximately. It is suspected that Biswas was trying to smuggle the dollars and gold biscuits to Bangladesh. After a brief interrogation he was handed over to the police. Cops suspect that he is part of an international smuggling racket. A probe has been initiated to identify the mastermind behind the racket.
