Boy kills self after sister refuses to give him her phone

Kolkata: A Class-VI student from Katwa in East Burdwan committed suicide after a quarrel with his elder sister over using her mobile phone.

The incident occurred at Srikhanda village under Katwa police station on Monday. It triggered tension among local residents. The deceased boy, identified as Kailash Ghosh, (11), had a fight with his elder sister, who is Class-X student, over using she mobile phone. The boy had no mobile phone of his own and hence he wanted to use the phone of his elder sister. As the elder sister was not willing to hand over her mobile phone to him, an altercation broke out between the two.

Following the incident, Priyanka went inside her room and attempted to kill herself by hanging from the ceiling fan. A timely intervention of the family members saved her but the victim on the other hand thought that his elder sister had committed suicide and he left the house in fear and hanged himself from a tree close to his house.

Some of the local residents spotted the victim and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought

dead.

The elder sister however managed to survive as she was rescued on time while she was attempting suicide. A probe has been initiated in this regard.
