Bombs hurled at 2 TMC activists in Hooghly

Kolkata: Two Trinamool Congress activists sustained splinter injuries when miscreants hurled bombs at them at Hooghly's Pandua on Saturday night. In a separate incident, around eight persons were injured after a clash broke out between Trinamool Congress and the BJP supporters in Canning area of South 24-Parganas on late Saturday evening.
Tension ran high in Pandua area of Hooghly on late Saturday evening when some miscreants hurled bombs on Trinamool Congress activists. Motilal Debnath and
Ganesh Debnath suffered injuries in the incident. They were rushed to Pandua Gramin Hospital.
The district Trinamool Congress leaders alleged that CPI(M) backed goons attacked the victims who were returning home after taking part in an election rally.
It was learnt that after taking part in the pre-election campaign, the victims accompanied an election contestant Sudhanghsu Hasda to his residence. While they were returning to their respective homes, some miscreants attacked them with bombs. Alerted by the loud thud, locals rushed to the spot and found the victims lying in a pool of blood. They were wreathing in pain.
The victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The local Trinamool Congress workers staged a protest demonstration in front of the policemen who visited the hospital after the incident.
They alleged that CPI-M and the BJP backed goons were unleashing terror in the area and the police failed to check the incidents.
Police have started a probe in this regard. They are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
CPI(M) leaders have, however, denied the allegations.
In the other incident, around 8 persons from both sides were injured when a clash broke out between the BJP and Trinamool Congress workers. The incident took place in Dabu village of Canning.
The injured victims are undergoing treatment at Canning Sub-divisional hospital.
The district Trinamool Congress leaders alleged that their party workers were attacked by the BJP workers while they were taking part in an election rally.
The victims are Subal Sardar, Utpal Sardar and Sunil Sardar. They were attacked with iron rods, Trinamool Congress alleged. They have lodged a complaint at the local police station against some of the BJP leaders.
In another incident, a clash broke out between the BJP and Trinamool Congress supporters in Beliatore area of Bankura on Saturday evening.
It was alleged that the
BJP leaders were organising rallies beyond the permitted time. Some Trinamool Congress activists who opposed the incident were attacked. This led to a scuffle between the two groups.
A few of them were injured from both sides. A police picket has been set up in the area.
