Bombs hurled, 1 shot at near Motijheel bustee

Kolkata: Panic spread among locals after some miscreants hurled bombs on the road near Motijheel bustee area under the Entally police station on late Saturday night.
Police said one Tipu and his gang members were hurling bombs on road to terrorise people. But none of the bombs exploded. A taxi driver, who was sitting inside his parked vehicle, was shot at by one of the miscreants when he protested against the incident.
The taxi driver, identified as Md Arzu was immediately rushed to NRS Medical College and Hospital with a bullet injury in his abdomen. According to the hospital sources, the condition of the victim is still critical. According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that the miscreants were passing through the area and were trying to terrorise locals.
Police are not, however, ruling out the possibility that the accused had assembled at the area for a gang war. By the CCTV footages, the investigators also came to know that some of the accused were carrying bombs in their hands while one accused was carrying a gun.
Police have started a detailed probe in this regard. None has been arrested in this connection so far.
