Body of worker found on construction site

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 54-year-old man whose body was found lying inside the under construction portion of an elevator.
According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim has fallen into the open portion of the under construction building demarcated for elevator from the ninth floor of the building.
Police are investigating if the victim had accidentally fallen into the open portion or there was any foul play behind the incident. Police are not, however, ruling out the possibility of the victim committing suicide.
Police said the under construction building is coming up on Ballygunge Circular road. The victim, Goutam Sikdar (54) used to work at the under construction building. The victim remained missing from Thursday morning. Some other persons who were supervising the construction site started a search operation in the area.
A few minutes later they found that the victim lying unconscious inside the portion of the lift. There were some injury marks on his body. After being informed, police rushed to the spot and took him to SSKM Hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The circumstantial evidences suggest that the victim died after he had fallen from a height.
Police are probing into all the possible angles. They are waiting for the postmortem report which might throw some light on the cause of death.
Police are also interrogating other employees of the construction work.
