Body of man found floating in Kudghat Canal

Kolkata: The body of an unknown person was found from the Kudghat canal on Sunday morning. Police recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy.

According to the sources, on Sunday morning at around 8:20 am, some locals of Banerjee Para under Haridevpur police station jurisdiction got a foul smell and went to the spot to investigate. Some of them noticed something like a human body was floating in the water near a club there.

Haridevpur police station was informed. Police reached the spot and arranged to take

out the body. After the body was recovered, it was seen that it was a body of a male aged about 50 years. Police checked the body if any injury marks were there but could not identify as the body was decomposed.

The sleuths suspect that the person might have been murdered somewhere else and his body was dumped there at night. As the water level of the canal is very low, the chances of the body moving away flow is less.

The chances of getting drowned is also low as the water level is not high.

According to the sources, the sleuths are checking the CCTV footage to check if anybody had

dumped the body.

Till Sunday night police could not identify the deceased.

An Unnatural Death (UD) case has been lodged by Haridevpur police station.

The sleuths are checking if any one had lodged a missing complaint in the adjacent area's police stations.
