Body of JU student found hanging at residence, suicide note recovered

Kolkata: A body of a student from Jadavpur University was found hanging inside her room at her residence on Baghajatin Station Road on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Sukanya Poddar (26). Her face was covered with a black piece of cloth and a suicide note was recovered saying no one was responsible for her death.

According to sources, Poddar was a student of Electrical Engineering at Jadavpur University. She had also completed her Post Graduation from the same university.

On Sunday morning around 11 am, her family members noticed that Poddar had not woken up. They knocked on the door but there was no response from their daughter. Despite repeated knocks, when she did not respond; her family members broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan in front of a mirror. Her face was covered with a black piece of cloth.

Jadavpur police station was immediately informed. Police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. Later, the sleuths found the suicide note from her room. Poddar's family members identified her writing.

Local sources informed that recently her marriage got fixed with a person of her choice. The marriage was scheduled to take place in December. Poddar was an introvert person and used to interact less with the neighbours. She was engaged as a part-time lecturer in a government owned college near Park Circus.

As the door was locked from the inside, the sleuths are almost sure that it is a case of suicide. But police are still in the dark about the cause. To figure the cause, police are checking with her smartphone and social media accounts. The sleuths may also contact her friends to know if she had said anything unusual to them recently.
