Body of homemaker found hanging

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 23-year-old homemaker who was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta late on Friday night at Hartuki Bagan Lane under Burtolla police station area.
The police recovered the body of Arpita Chatterjee from the bedroom of the house and rushed it to RG Kar Medical College Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The victim's family alleged that their daughter was hanged by her in-laws who often tortured her.
"Her mother-in-law would often call and complain about her. She is not the type who would commit suicide. She has been hanged," the victim's brother alleged.
The police have initiated a case of unnatural death. "No suicide note has been recovered as yet," an investigating officer of Burtolla police station said.
In another incident, a woman threatened to set herself on fire at Bosepukur Road in Kasba police station area on Friday afternoon.
Police officials from Kasba police station along with the court-appointed bailiff had gone to the spot to execute an eviction order given by the Alipore civil court at a plot on Bosepukur Road, where nearly 40 families were illegally residing for many years.
While they were persuading the residents, the lady threatened to set herself ablaze if they were made to evict. The eviction process was halted and a report regarding the matter was submitted before the court.
"We are awaiting further orders from the court," an official from the Kasba police station said.
