Body of anti-social found with deep neck injuries

Kolkata: The body of a person involved in anti-social activities, was found with deep injuries on his neck from an abandoned godown of a transport company on Sonai Road under West Port police station on Tuesday morning.
The person has as many as seven cases like theft and Arms Act violations pending against him. Sleuths are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime but are suspecting a drunken brawl between the victim and his friends as the reason behind the crime. However, locals are not ruling out the possibility of a gang rivalry.
According to police sources, the victim Aklim Khan (35), who originally hails from Gazipur in Uttar Pradesh, used to reside at a rented house on Nimak Mahal Road.
"We have found two cut marks on the throat of the victim. Empty bottles of country liquor and some plastic cups were also found. The nature of injury suggests that his throat was slit with a chopper-like weapon," Joint Commissioner of police (crime) Vishal Garg said. Officers from the West Port police station and the homicide wing of Kolkata Police's detective department went to the spot and collected samples. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service.
As per police sources, the victim worked at a shop selling biryani in the area. However, the shop had closed down a year back after it suffered huge losses. Following this, the youth took to petty crimes like eve teasing, theft, and criminal activities of similar nature.
The youth had gone with three or four of his friends near the abandoned godown late in the night. In the morning, the West Port police station received a call from locals that they had found a body with injury marks. Police rushed to the spot and carried the body to SSKM Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
The sleuths are collecting information about his friends with whom he used to spend time. They are also scanning the call details of the victim's mobile phone to ascertain with whom he had spoken before the crime. A piece of paper has been recovered from the spot with as many as four mobile numbers written on it.
The spot examination has revealed that the youth was killed in a nearby place and was dragged inside the shed of the godown so that the body could not be seen easily.
