Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 15-year-old boy whose body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room at Ballygunge Maidan Campus on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Mayank Kumar (15), who was the son Manoj Kumar, an army jawan. Manoj has currently been posted in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to police, the victim used to stay on the fifth floor of a flat at Ballygunge Maidan Camp. The victim used to stay in the flat with his mother and younger brother.
Police said the victim's young brother found Mayank hanging from the ceiling on early Friday morning when he was going to the toilet. He reported the matter to his mother, Punita Kumar. The family members brought the victim to the Command Hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.
The family members of the deceased told the police he had committed suicide with the help of a bed cover. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have committed suicide following mental depression.
Police have started a detailed probe to ascertain the exact cause behind his suicide. They said Manoj is originally from Sitamari district of Bihar. Cops have started a case of unnatural death and did not recover any suicide note from his room.
A senior officer of the city police said they received a phone call at around 5 am stating that a boy was found hanging inside his flat at Ballygunge Maidan Campus.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot for the sake of investigation.
A bed cover and a stool were recovered from the room of the victim which were used by the victim while committing suicide. No foul play has been detected behind the death of the victim, police said.
Police are investigating if the victim was involved in a love relationship. The family members of the victim are being interrogated by the investigating officers.
Police came to know that the victim addicted to playing video games. They are looking into if he committed suicide after being rebuked by his mother. A detailed probe has been initiated in this regard.
