Bodies found in flat at Khardah in North 24-Parganas

Kolkata: The decomposed body of a couple was found from a flat on Sunday morning at Khardah in North 24-Parganas.

As the door was locked from outside, the police suspect that the couple has been murdered.

According to sources, the couple identified as Soumitra Mukherjee (52) and Uma Mukherjee (47) lived at a housing complex located at Pansila in Khardah. The couple was issueless.

Since the past 3-4 days, their neighbours did not see them.

They also saw that newspapers remained piled outside their flat where the hawker delivered it everyday.

As the door was locked from outside, neighbours thought that the Mukherjee couple had gone out for a few days.

Since Saturday morning, residents of Mukherjee family's adjacent flats were experiencing a foul smell but they did

not bothered much.

Late on Saturday, the smell turned intense. On Sunday morning, when the situation got intolerable, neighbours informed Khardah police station.

Police personnel from Khardah police station went

to the spot and broke the locked door and found the

bedroom is also locked from outside and the smell was emanating from the bedroom.

After breaking the door, Soumitra's body was found on the bed while Uma's body was found from under the bed. The room was ransacked.

As both the bodies were decomposed, the police failed to assume the cause of death. It is suspected that miscreants had come to rob the flat and after committing the crime they killed the couple they left the spot after locking the doors.

The police came to know from local residents that the Mukherjee family had recently bought some electronics goods which were delivered to their place.

Also, the police were informed that the couple was not at all social as they preferred to live alone.

Local residents alleged that a gang is active in the area as several cases of theft and burglary happened recently. However, the police are trying to gather clues in order to nab the culprits.
