BMC launches 3-day fair at Swapno Bhor

Kolkata: Sabyasachi Dutta, Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday inaugurated the three-day pre-puja fair at Swapno Bhor.
Swapno Bhor is the state's only senior citizens' park in New Town. The fair is the first-of-its-kind organised by Swapno Bhor.
Debashis Sen, chairman of Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) and noted dancer Amita Dutta were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Dutta said senior citizens are "retired" but not "tired." He said age is "just a number" and senior people can contribute in society very effectively.
Debashis Sen said this is for the first time when the fair is being organised at Swapno Bhor. "Senior citizens are showing keen interest in various things and exhibitions by them will be held in various places in New Town."
Forty stalls selling designer sarees, costume jewellery, paintings, kurtis, dupattas have been opened. There are food stalls including one by Café Ekante.
A stall selling books by two well-known publishing houses, Rito and Boichitra attracted attention of the visitors.
A Bengali translation of Louis Carol's Alice in Wonderland by Rajashree Mukhopadyhyay is a star attraction. The original look of the first edition of the book has been kept and the publishing house took permission from the Alice Society in North Carolina. The fair will continue till September 3 from 12 noon to 7 pm.
