BJP worker hurt in bomb blast at Jhargram

Kolkata: A BJP worker suffered serious injuries after a crude bomb exploded in his hand during the celebrations over the party's victory in the Lok Sabha elections. The incident took place on Sunday morning at Chandrokona in Jhargram.

On Sunday morning, local BJP leaders had arranged a rally to celebrate the party's victory in the polls.

While the rally was in progress, party worker Sunil Murmu took out a crude bomb from his bag and when he was about to hurl it, the bomb exploded in his hand.

Other BJP workers, who were also a part of the rally, were aghast to see Murmu on the ground bleeding profusely. His hand was almost detached from his body due to the impact of the explosion.

He was immediately rushed to Dwari Geria Primary Health Centre. But, as his condition was deteriorated, Murmu was shifted to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital where he is still under treatment.

Local BJP leadership made no comments over the incident. But, the Trinamool has sought a detailed investigation on the incident. Question arises how BJP workers could carry crude bombs during a rally.

It is not known whether the bomb was supposed to be used during the celebration or the workers had plans to attack anyone in the rally.

According to police sources, a specific case has been initiated in this connection. None has been arrested. Murmu may get arrested after he gets discharged from hospital. As per reports, his condition is stable.

In a separate incident, 22 crude bombs were recovered from Bolundi village in Arambag. The bombs were found under a culvert. Necessary actions have been taken to diffuse the bombs.
