BJP leader held for duping on pretext of providing flat

Former Trinamool Congress Councillor of Bidhannagar Municipality Anupam Dutta who had joined BJP in the month of May was arrested by Bidhannagar South Police Station on charges of duping a person to the tune of Rs one crore with a false promise of an apartment. Dutta was picked up on the basis of a source information from Dum Dum Airport while he was trying to flee from the city.
Police sources said that Dutta had promised to handover a flat at BD Block in Salt Lake and had cheated the complainant to the tune of a crore. His name had cropped up after the police had arrested one Madhusudan Chakraborty in connection with the case. "Dutta is responsible for making a fabricated deed of the
property and is very much involved in the conspiracy of fraud," an officer of Bidhannagar South police station said. The police have been on the look out for Dutta who had been on the hideout for the last few days.
State Food minister and North 24 Parganas district President of Trinamool Congress said that the party has nothing to do with the arrest. "He has joined BJP. Now they have to take the responsibility. We do not encourage such fraudulent practices in our party," Mallick said. Dutta was produced at Bidhannagar Court and was remanded to five-day police custody.
Dutta, a resident of BD Block, was the longest serving Councillor of the municipality, in charge of blocks like BD and AD. But he was denied a ticket to contest the elections in 2015 when the Municipality was getting converted into a corporation. Thereafter, he contested as an independent candidate but lost to Trinamool's Anindya Chatterjee in the polls that were marred by violence.
