BJP leader arrested for storing bombs at home

Kolkata: North 24-Parganas police have arrested a BJP leader for keeping bombs at his home in Bagda. The incident triggered tension among the local residents.

Police said that the accused BJP leader, identified as Bishnupada Roy, stocked 6 live bombs inside his house at Jagadishpur village of Bangda.

The police came to know that the accused had kept bombs in his house. A police team on Wednesday night raided his house and seized six bombs from the kitchen of his house.

The district BJP leaders, however, alleged that Roy has been framed and local Trinamool Congress leaders have conspired to dent BJP's image in the area. The BJP leaders also claimed that Roy had been instrumental in strengthening the party organisation in Bagda area.

The district Trinamool Congress leaders denied the allegations and said that the BJP leaders in the area are trying to unleash a reign of terror ahead of elections. Some of the local residents in the area alleged that bombs were being stored to create trouble during the elections. The police officers are verifying the allegation of local residents.

The police have started a detailed probe in this regard. Police are trying to know why the accused stocked the bombs in his house. They are investigating if there were any plans of to use the bombs during the elections. Earlier, the district police seized arms from various places of Bagda and other areas of Bongaon sub-divisions. Following the notification of the Lok Sabha elections, there have been raids in various parts of the districts to confiscate illegal arms and ammunition. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that some other persons might have been involved in the incident. They are trying to identify the other accused.
