Bizman murdered in Ranaghat, family alleges role of cousin

A businessman from Ranaghat in Nadia was hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants.

The incident took place when the victim, Raju Das (45) was returning home after closing his shop at Bagadanga area of Nadia. Police said that on his way back home, some miscreants stopped him near gate number 3 area under Ranaghat police station. A quarrel broke out between the victim and the miscreants and this led to a scuffle. One of the miscreants suddenly hit on his head with an iron rod. To ensure death, the miscreants also shot at him from a close range. After receiving the bullet injury, the victim fell to the ground.

The local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshot and found the businessman lying in a pool of blood. The miscreants, meanwhile, fled from the spot. The local residents rushed Das to the Ranaghat Sub-divisional hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.

Police are investigating if any business rivalry had led to the murder of the businessman. The victim's family members, however, alleged that his cousin brother might have been involved in the crime following a land dispute. The victim's wife has told the police that the cousin brother of Das wanted him to handover a piece of land to the accused. As Das refused to transfer the ownership of the land, the accused hatched the plan to kill the victim. Das' family members were also receiving threats from the accused repeatedly, Das' wife told police.

The incident triggered tension among the local businessmen. They have demanded that police must strengthen security arrangements in the area. Meanwhile, police are conducting raids to nab the culprits. A detailed probe has been initiated.
