Bidhannagar cops restrict goods vehicles during Puja

Kolkata: In a bid to ensure security of pandal-hoppers during Durga Puja, the Bidhannagar Police have restricted plying of goods vehicles on major thoroughfares for a certain time span.
On the day of Panchami, goods vehicles were not allowed to ply on certain roads from 3 pm to 2 am of the next day. From the day of Sasthi, that is on Tuesday, to Dashami that is on Sunday the restriction will be from 3 pm to 4 am of the next day.
Though the time span will decrease, the restriction on plying of goods vehicles will continue till October 4, the last date for immersion of Durga idols. From October 1 to October 4, the restriction will be from 2 pm to 2 am of the next day.
The important thoroughfares where plying of goods vehicles have been restricted include EM Bypass from Sukantanagar to Chirighata towards Sector V, from Beliaghata Crossing towards Broadway and from Kadapara Crossing towards Bidhannanagar.
At the same time, movement of goods vehicles will also remain restricted from Gate Number 1 and 2 of Salt Lake towards Bidhannagar, both sides from Chinar Park along major arterial roads under Baguiati police station and
New Town police station, etc.
At the same time, there will be traffic diversions on many roads. Bangur cut out on VIP Road will remain closed too. The movement of vehicles from Lake Town to VIP Road crossing will remain one way towards Lake Town-Jessore Road crossing during the Puja.
Moreover, no vehicles shall be allowed to move along the service road from Lake Town Link to Golaghata till immersion.
The terminus for buses on route number 227 and KB 16 at Bangur and of route 12-C at Dum Dum Park will not function till October 4.
