Bengal tourism bags best overall presentation award at IITM

Kolkata: Bengal tourism has been awarded the best overall presentation at the India International Travel Mart (IITM) 2018.
Gujarat tourism won the best decorative stand while Andhra Pradesh tourism won the best beach destination. Bengal has also been felicitated for being a great host of this season at the recently concluded IITM in Kolkata.
After coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister gave special emphasis on the develop ment of tourism. It may be mentioned that in the administrative review meetings she has said over and again to take measures to develop tourism. As a result of these measures, the numbers of both foreign and domestic tourists have gone up. The state government is organising Durga carnival, a colourful procession before immersion of Goddess Durga to woo tourists at both thebdomestic and international level.
In north Bengal, the state government has given special thrust on home stay facilities. And it is picking up very fast.
In the Western districts, the state government is coming up with tree tourism in Bankura at Jhulimili. In Digha and Tajpur, beach festival has been conducted during December. Elaborate measures have been taken to develop Digha and its neighbourhood.
The state government has also proposed to develop religious tourism. Banerjee during her recent visit to the ISKCON temple at Mayapur has assured every cooperation to the move to declare the area as World Heritage Site. Comprehensive area development plan has been chalked out for Sagar islands where lakhs of pilgrims visit during Gangasagar.
