Bengal govt to develop tourism circuits

The Bengal government has taken up a plan to develop tourism circuits covering places of historical interest on priority basis, Tourism Minister Goutam Deb said.

Deb told the Assembly during question hour session that the state government has plans to develop a tourism circuit covering places in Bankura district like Bishnupur, famous for terracotta temples belonging to 17th and 18th centuries and Mukutmanipur, where the second biggest earth dam of the country is located.

Deb said another circuit covering Plassey in Nadia, where the British won a decisive battle in 1757 and historical sites of Hazar Duari and Lal Bagh in Murshidabad was also being planned.

On Wednesday, the state tourism department decided to start various degree and diploma courses on tourism and hotel management at various institutions across the state.
