Kolkata: Police recovered a mutilated body on Sunday morning at Kheyadaha in Narendrapur in South 24-Parganas. Officers sent the body for autopsy. In another development, a man was arrested for murdering his wife as he suspected her of having an illicit affair.

According to sources, on Sunday morning, local residents spotted some plastic packets floating in Khorki canal in Kheyadaha.

The packets were smeared with blood. Officers of Narendrapur police station recovered the body parts. It was found that the person was beheaded. Police officials said the unidentified body was found around 9 am on Sunday.

It is suspected that the person has been murdered somewhere else and his body was cut into pieces and stashed in polythene packets at Kheyadaha.

A sniffer dog was also called on Sunday morning. Police are searching for complaints for missing persons lodged with the police in and around Narendrapur of police stations adjacent to Narendrapur.

This apart, a woman identified as Krishna Baidya (40) of Kusumba at Sahapara in Narendrapur was found dead in her residence on Friday.

During the probe, the police arrested her husband identified as Bapi Baidya, who was absconding from Tolygunj area, since the murder took place. He was trying to evade arrest posing as a monk. According to sources, Bapi, a driver by profession used to torture Krishna for money. She had managed to save Rs 1 lakh by working as a maid in the locality.

Bapi suspected her of having an illicit relationship. On Friday night, when Bapi demanded money from Krishan, she got involved in an altercation.

When Krishna told him that she would not give him money, Bapi allegedly stabbed her with a sharp weapon and when she died he placed Krishna's body on the bed and locked the room before escaping.

According to Krishna's daughter, Kabita Das, her mother was supposed to visit her home. When she did not reach her home, Kabita tried to call her.

As she found her mother's mobile phone switched off, Kabita went to Krishna and found the door of her house was locked. Later, she called others in the locality and the police was informed.

After the police recovered Krishna's body, Kabita lodged a murder complaint against her father at the Narendrapur police station.

During the probe, the police tracked the mobile tower location of Bapi and went to Tollygunge area on Saturday night. After searching for almost an hour, the police personnel saw a monk, who resembled Bapi.

When the police went close to the monk he allegedly tried escaping from the place.

Suspecting something fishy, the police surrounded the monk and found Bapi was wearing false beard and shaved his head to look like a monk.

He was then brought to Narendrapur and eventually was arrested. However, the police are still clueless about the culprits involved in the murder of a couple at Kheyadaha a few weeks ago.
