Police arrested a Bangladeshi national from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport on Thursday night on charges of carrying a fake passport.
Sharif Hassan, the accused was going to Saudi Arabia via Kolkata and Delhi. He was interrogated by the officers and produced before the Barrackpore court on Friday.
The officers examined the important documents of Sharif Hassan and found that he was carrying a fake passport. Later, the accused was called up for primary interrogation but he made some confusing statements there.
Police arrested him late on Thursday night and the accused was taken to the court.
The investigators learnt that he came to city on Thursday night from Agartala for catching connecting flights to Saudi Arabia via Kolkata and Delhi.
An investigation was initiated by the Bidhannagar City Police to know that how did he get that fake Bangladeshi passport.
It may be recalled that police detained three foreigners from NSCBI Airport on April 19 on charges of carrying fake passports with them.
The foreigners were interrogated by the investigators, who later found that two of them were Sri Lankan nationals and one was from Bangladesh. One Nepalese national
Asima Chetri was arrested for similar charge at the NSCBI Airport while she was going to Kuala Lumpur via Kolkata a few months back.
The investigators from Bidhannagar City Police, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and even National Investigation Agency earlier expressed their concerns over growth of such cases over the time. "While probing, we are keeping tabs on previous incident as well," said a police officer.
