Barun Majumdar passes away

Kolkata: Noted journalist and Padmashree recipient Barun Majumdar died at a private nursing home in Howrah on Monday. He was 77 years old. He felt ill and was taken to the hospital where he died at 7 pm. Born on September 9, 1942, Majumdar passed his MA in Journalism from Calcutta University in 1965. He was associated with the teaching profession and Basumati for 10 years. In 1971, Majumdar went to East Pakistan as a war correspondent and was a witness to the Bangladesh liberation movement. He was caught by the Pakistani Armed Force and his presence of mind had helped him to flee. He was very close to Bangabandhu Mujibar Rahman and his council of ministers. He was a reporter and a news reader in Akashbani. He had written several books on his experience during the Bangladesh liberation movement.
