Baruipur SOG arrests four pirates, recovers arms and ammunition from Sunderbans

Kolkata: In a major achievement, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Baruipur police district in South 24 Parganas in the wee hours of Friday arrested four Bangladeshi pirates from Pirkhali-4 area under Sunderbans.
Police also recovered seven firearms, few rounds of ammunition and one mechanised boat from the possession of the pirates.
A senior police official of the district informed that the raid was carried out on the basis of a credible source information in association with Sunderbans coastal police station.
"There was a short exchange of gunfire between our SOG team and the pirates and we managed to apprehend four of them," the official added.
Few pirates, however, managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness of the forest as the operation was conducted at around 3.30 am.
The arrested accused have been identified as Habibur Dhali(26) of village Bagali, under Ashasani police station in Satkhira district, Habibulla Bahar (32) of Purba Pathakhali under Shyamnagar police station in Satkhira district, Sahebali Gazi (31) of Choto Chandipur, under Shyamnagar police station in Satkhira and Md Billal Hossian (27) of Modinabad under Koyra police station of Khulna district.
The seized firemarms include four long-pipe guns, three short-pipe guns, five rounds .8 mm live ammunition, 10 rounds live .12 mm ammunition and five rounds .12 mm empty cartridge.
"We will interrogate the four accused and will conduct raids to nab those who fled away taking advantage of the darkness," the senior official said.
