Bansdroni murder: Cops arrest main accused

Kolkata: A day after a 35-year-old Animesh Sardar was murdered at Bansdroni, police have arrested the main accused Rajesh Mollah in this connection.
The investigators are, however, shocked to see the nature of the crime. According to the preliminary investigation police suspect that an old rivalry might have led to the crime. Sardar was killed when he was returning home at Bansdroni in South Kolkata at around 1 am on Monday. The victim who was a non-teaching staff of a school was a resident of Shibmandir Road at Bansdroni.
After starting an investigation police detained Mollah and later arrested him following prolonged interrogation. It was learnt that the accused gave in and admitted his guilt.
The victim was attacked by the accused and some of his associates when he was returning home on the day of Chaturthi. The victim went to meet some of his friends on Sunday evening. When he was returning home on his motorcycle, the accused stopped him and along with some other persons, started beating him up. Police came to know in the course of investigation that the miscreants were 5-6 in number. One of them suddenly took out a knife and stabbed him repeatedly.
The police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder, but suspect that old rivalry and dispute over payment of some money led to the crime.
After starting an investigation police recovered the knife which was used in the crime. After interrogating the victim's family members, police came to know that the victim had a rivalry with some youth.
On the basis of the compliant police detained three persons on Monday including the main accused.
The post-mortem report said that there were nine injury marks on the body of the victim. His throat was slit with a knife.
Police said that the miscreants stabbed the victim's abdomen with a sharp weapon. It was a pre-planned murder, police suspect. Raids are being conducted to nab the other culprits involved in the crime.
