Banglar Awas Bitaran Divas to be held on January 29

Kolkata: The state government will organise the "Banglar Awas Bitaran Divas" on January 29, in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be distributing certificates of sanction among beneficiaries.
Financial assistance will be given to construct 5 lakh houses to people from economically weaker sections in rural areas, under the Bangla Gramin Awas Yojana.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had made the announcement of giving houses to 5 lakh people who are homeless and financially weak.
Banglar Awas Bitaran Divas will be held across the state and the state-level programme will take place in Netaji Indoor Stadium.
It may be mentioned that the decision of the state government in providing financial assistance to people from economically weaker sections in the rural parts of the state, will be of immense help for the same.
The state government will also give necessary support to people to construct houses under the Banglar Bari scheme, under which flats will be provided to people living below the poverty line in municipality areas.
The buildings will be constructed by the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) and families headed by women and financially weaker ones, whose monthly income is lesser than Rs 10,000, will be given priority.
The decision was taken to build four-storey buildings in municipal areas to ensure permanent shelter to people from financially weaker sections.
The state government also provides necessary support to people who are having their own plot for construction of their houses, under another programme called "Nijo Bhumi Nijo Griha" scheme.
At the same time, under the "Gitanjali" scheme, around 3 lakh people will be getting benefits to build houses. Moreover, the state government has also decided to give financial assistance to economically weaker sections under Gitanjali scheme, for extension of their houses.
The financial assistance will be provided to help people carry out work "for upgradation or extension of existing pucca houses of the beneficiaries in urban areas".
