Bandhan-Konnagar runs health schemes in 5,000 villages across 7 states

KOLKATA: Bandhan-Konnagar has been running various health related schemes in as many as 5,000 villages across 7 states including Bengal to address malnutrition among children, maintaining hygiene and sanitation.
In collaboration with the HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company Limited, Bandhan-Konnagar has been implementing one of its flagship CSR projects 'Healthy Baby Wealthy Nation', across 24 Gram Panchayats of Bengal since 2015. The project has been running in altogether 585 Gram Panchayats across the country.
Bandhan-Konnagar's health initiative started in 2007 to create health awareness amongst mothers and their adolescent daughters to help reduce health expenditure of underprivileged families.
It has selected interested women from the community and trained them to work as health volunteers, popularly known as Swastha Sahayikas.
Bandhan-Konnagar has so far developed 5,500 health volunteers across 5 states. As of April 2018, Bandhan Health Program is catering to around 1 million households (5 million population) across
7 states.
Health camps are being conducted in every village once a month, where people are imparted knowledge on malnutrition and other issues.
The project mainly focus on improving the nutritional status of children below the age of 5 years and also on generating community awareness on child health and nutrition, use of safe drinking water and sanitary latrines.
As a part of this initiative, its health team has organised counseling, emphasizing issues like safe motherhood,
child nutrition, new born care, breast feeding, immunisation, weaning, sanitation, among others, thereby increasing awareness amongst rural communities.
Bandhan-Konnagar has set a target to reach out to 7,500 villages in the next 3 years. It offers an entire suite of development programs in the field of education, health, livelihood promotion, skill development, financial literacy and the likes across 11 states.
These programs are aimed towards bringing about holistic transformation in the underprivileged community.
Various development programmes have been carried out by Bandhan-Konnagar aimed at uplifting the lives of the underprivileged.
