Atin Ghosh urges builders to keep sites clean

Kolkata: Atin Ghosh, member, Mayor-in-Council (Health) has urged all the builders to keep the constructions sites clean and ensure that containers for storing water are cleaned at least once a week.
Construction works are going on in 7,700 sites in areas under KMC's jurisdiction.
Ghosh along with KMC officials and other staff on Thursday visited a construction site on Monmohan Banerjee Road in Ward 118 in South Kolkata. The construction is being carried out by Vyom Construction. Ghosh expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the builder to keep the construction site clean.
Earlier, the officials of the Health department of KMC had issued a notice to the builder on August 16 asking him to take steps to clean garbage from the construction site. The notice was served after two cases of dengue were reported from adjoining areas. A KMC team also visited the site.
Senior civic officials said the workers are regularly spraying diesel and kerosene and cleaning water containers once a week. Aedes Agypti larvae were found in a room where water was stored for curing. Civic officials instructed the workers about the measures that should be taken to keep the areas free from larvae.
Ghosh said the KMC has sought cooperation from the people coming from all walks of life to combat malaria and dengue. "KMC has launched massive awareness campaigns all over the city and steps have been taken to control the
spread of dengue but we seek cooperation from people to check the spread of the disease," Ghosh said.
