At least 100 fall ill after having bhog prasad

At least 100 villagers fell ill and had to be hospitalised after taking prasad at a temple in Bankura's Gangajalghati area on Sunday. Doctors are suspecting this to be a case of diarrhea.

Police have learnt that several villagers had gone to attend a local puja where they took prasad. There were atleast 100-120 people who attended it and after returning home, most of them complained of vomiting on Monday morning. The villagers reached the hospital and doctors identified symptoms of diarrhea.

"The villagers have undergone medical tests and symptoms of diarrhea have been found," said a doctor in the hospital.

"At least 120 villagers were admitted to the hospital. Some of the villagers have been given saline and others have been prescribed medicines," he added.

The hospital authorities have reported the matter to the district administration and the police have started a probe regarding the same. "We are on the look out of the cook who prepared the bhog prasad. We have to find out the reason for the contamination," a police officer said.
