Assistant Sub-Inspector, Home Guard injured in separate accidents

Kolkata: An assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a Home Guard of Kolkata Police were injured in two separate road accidents at Jorabagan and Baranagar respectively. An unknown taxi hit ASI of the city police's Special Branch Tapas Majumder when he was on duty at the crossing if MG Road and Syed Salley Lane at Jorabagan.

A police officer said that the accident was outcome of negligent and rash driving. A Home Guard, posted at Jadavpur police station, received injuries when he was hit by a vehicle at Baranagar. Meanwhile, four persons were killed and four others were injured in three separate road accidents in the state on Monday.

The first incident occurred at Bhabanipur area of Murshidabad on Kandi-Berhampore state highway on Monday morning when the two bikes had a head on collision. According to the police, one bike was carrying three passengers while the other was carrying two passengers. One biker identified as Mihaz Ali was declared dead after being

taken to Kandi Sun-divisional hospital. The other four bikers received injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that both the bikers were at a high speed as a result of which, they could not control the bike. Police have seized the bikes which were badly damaged in the incident. In another incident, one person was killed when a bike was hit by a speeding truck at Dhantala area of Nadia on Monday. Police are yet to ascertain the identity of the victim who was riding on a motorcycle. He was mowed down by a speeding truck when he was trying to cross a road, the local residents told the police. The third incident took place at Gopiballavpur of Jhargram when a bicyclist received fatal injuries on his body after being hit by a mini-truck. Police said that a middle-aged man was cycling by the side of the road when the mini-truck lost its control and hit the victim.

He was declared brought dead after being taken to the hospital by the local people. Police are conducting raids to nab the truck driver who fled from the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident.
