ASI shoots himself dead in Durgapur

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver.
The victim, Nazimuddin Seikh (35) who was posted at Durgapur police station shot himself in his head with the service revolver. The incident took place on late Saturday night at the Counter Emergency Force Campus at Bidhannagar area of Durgapur. After hearing the gun shot, other police personnel rushed to the spot and found the ASI lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to the Durgapur Sub-divisional hospital where he was declared brought dead. He was the resident of Rampurhat in Birbhum.
Senior police officers of Asansol Durgapur police Commissionerate rushed to the spot after the incident. It was learnt that the ASI had gone to undertake commando training at Punjab where he received severe injuries on his leg. After returning home he was undergoing treatment for his leg injury. He had been suffering from mental depression as he was unable to lead a normal life due to the injury on his leg which the doctors had termed serious in nature. The biggest worry for Seikh was whether he would be able to lead a normal life which might have led to his frustration, police suspect. Police said he had borrowed some money from the market which might have been another cause for his depression.
According to the preliminary investigation police suspect that he might have committed suicide due to depression. Police are waiting for the post-mortem reports of the victim. Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) of Asansol Durgapur Commissionerate started a probe in this regard. The exact cause of the suicide is yet to be ascertained.
