Asansol Municipal Corporation announces Rs 2 lakh compensation for victims

Kolkata: The Asansol Municipal Corporation will be providing financial support to victims of the recent clashes that broke out in Raiganj and Asansol following the Ram Navami processions last Sunday.
Mayor Jitendra Tiwari announced: "The civic body will give Rs 2 lakh each to the next-of-kin of the victims and Rs 10,000 for those who have lost property."
After the normalcy was restored in Asansol and Raniganj, the Corporation has initiated the second phase of work to provide necessary support to the affected families. A committee has been formed headed by the chairman of the Corporation and with councillors of the affected areas in Asansol and Raniganj as its members. The committee will be visiting the places and will assess the need for each and every affected family.
The assessment report will be submitted by Tuesday and immediate steps will be taken to provide support to those affected.
Tiwari further added: "Based on the assessment report, the one-time financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each will be given to families affected due to the clashes and it will be given so that they can undertake to repair doors, windows, etc in their houses. Within three days, the money will be transferred to the bank accounts of the affected people."
The committee will also look the families' specific needs and in case, it is required, the state government will be contacted.
"Different people may have different problems. So the reason that is compelling them not to return to their houses need to be assessed individually and it is also essential to know that what help they require to return to their homes," said Tiwari.
It may be mentioned that the state government had taken immediate steps in restoring peace in Raiganj and Asansol. A huge team of senior IPS officers were pressed into action immediately and they took necessary moves that helped in bringing the situation under control.
