Arrested B'deshi terrorists remanded to 5-day police custody

Kolkata: The arrested members of Bangladeshi terrorist organisation, Ansar Bangla Team that is a part of Al-Qaeda network in Indian sub-continent, were remanded to police custody for five days.

Police on Tuesday arrested Samsad Miya (26) alias Tanvir and Riyaz (25) alias Riyazul Islam members of the banned Ansar Bangla Team and arms dealer Monotosh De from Kolkata Station.

It may be mentioned that in 2015 Al-Qaeda and Ansar Bangla had jointly convened a meeting where Samsad was present.

They were produced before the Bankshall Court on Wednesday afternoon amidst tight security. Further investigation revealed that Samsad and Riyaz had stayed in Delhi for around 12 days and also spent 32 days in a guesthouse in Howrah. Now the investigating officers are trying to know their purpose of visiting Delhi.

Police suspect they went to Delhi to do a recess of the places around important installations. It may be mentioned that police have also come to know that they had noted down names of important places in the city including Esplanade Bus Stand and Eden Gardens in a piece of paper.

Investigation revealed that Monotosh De, who is a resident of Basirhat in North 24-Parganas, had smuggled fire arms four times in Bangladesh in the past five months.

He had even distrtacted the police here. He rented a house at Moitrabagan in Basirhat one and a half years ago.

Two women, who he had introduced to the local people as his wife Gouri and mother-in-law Sabita also used to stay in the same rented house. Gouri had told them that her husband is a fish trader. Police on Wednesday interrogated both Gouri and Sabita. Interestingly, the landlord Debashis Chakraborty, his wife Sushmita and neighbours knew the accused as Shyamal De.

They were shocked to know that he introduced himself as Monotosh De to the police.

The police have also come to know that he had married another woman, who stays in a house situated at Raghnathpur Dakshinpara, which is just 2 km away from the rented house at Moitrapara. Interestingly, here everyone knew him as Jiaul Gazi.

Monotosh's connection with some people in Khulna also got established as some of his relatives stay there. It may be mentioned that Riyaz alias Riyazul Islam one of the two arrested members of Bangladeshi terrorist organisation, Ansar Bangla Team that is a part of Al-Qaeda network in the Indian sub-continent, is also a resident of Khulna.
