Arrest warrants against cricketer Md Shami and his brother

Kolkata: Arrest warrants against cricketer Md Shami and his brother Hasib Ahmed were issued on Monday by Alipore Court in connection with the domestic violence case lodged by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. It is alleged that as Shami and his brother did not appear before the court till date. According to sources, earlier Jahan's lawyer Anirban Guhathakurta appealed for Shami and his brother's arrest warrants as they did not appear before the court once, since the case was going on. Allowing the prayer on Monday, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), Alipore, Subrata Mukherjee issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Shami and Hasib.

However, Shami was given 15 days time as, at present, he was a part of the Indian cricket team in West Indies. Shami has to surrender before the court by the stipulated time. The police have been directed not to arrest Shami if he reaches India and Kolkata before the stipulated time. "It is a positive sign for us. It proves that no one is above the law," said Guhathakurta.

In March in 2018, Jahan lodged a complaint against Shami and Ahmed for alleged torture by Shami and her in-laws. During March this year, the police filed the chargesheet accusing Shami and Ahmed in the case lodged by Jahan. However, no police action was taken till Monday night to arrest Ahmed.
