Aroop Biswas inaugurates Amal Dutta Krirangan in Dum Dum

Kolkata: Aroop Biswas, state minister for Public Works Department, Youth Services and Sports, inaugurated the newly constructed Amal Dutta Krirangan in Dum Dum on Friday.

MPs Saugata Roy and Dola Sen and state ministers Purnendu Basu, Sujit Bose, Bratya Basu and Chandrima Bhattacharya were present on the occasion, along with Panchu Ray, chairman, South Dum Dum Municipality.

The multi-crore stadium will have facilities for indoor and outdoor games. The stadium will meet the long-standing demand of local people. There is a state-of-the-art gymnasium and changing room for the players.

This is the first time when a stadium in Bengal has been named after a renowned football coach. Dutta rose to fame for introducing diamond method, a new system of arranging players on the field, in the late 1970s.

The method fetched national trophies for the star teams East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. He had also penned several books on football coaching, of which "Football khelte hole" was the most popular.

Dutta was also involved in coaching budding footballers in North 24-Parganas.
