Arms racket busted in South 24-Parganas

Kolkata: An arms racket was busted on Wednesday night at Dholahat in South 24 Parganas. During the search, the police recovered several short and long range firearms along with gun powder and crude bombs from a house.

According to sources, a few days ago a clash broke out between two groups at Amirpur in Dholahat. During the clash, members of both the groups hurled bombs at each other. During investigation, the police came to know that an arms racket was active in the area. Later, the police gathered intelligence inputs and found the location of the house.

On Wednesday night, a special team of Sunderban Police District and Dholahat police station conducted a raid at the house.

During the raid, the police found huge quantities of arms, including two mini grenade launcher. The arms were being supplied in South 24-Parganas as well as other areas outside the district. Two persons, including the owner of the house, identified as Mir Zahir were arrested.

A few days ago, Kolkata Police had arrested a notorious arms dealer of South 24-Parganas from Regent Park.

They were lured into a trap by the police posing as prospected customers.

Earlier, several arms rackets were found across South 24 Parganas which triggered tension among the police administration.

Maximum numbers of such racket were found under the jurisdiction of Baruipur Police district. However, police units in South 24 Parganas are keeping strict vigil in their respective jurisdiction to identify and bust such rackets.
